Murder of Amritsar Hindu leader: 1 more accused held from Mumbai

AMRITSAR: Police have arrested another accused in the murder of Hindu Sangharsh Sena leader Vipan Sharma, who was shot dead by a group of assailants here on October 30.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, deputy commission­er of police (DCP) Jagmohan Singh said accused Bikramjit Singh alias Ghulla of Amritsar, who helped notorious gangsters Saraj Sandhu alias Mintoo and Shubham Singh in the killing of right-wing leader, was arrested by the Mumbai police at the airport there on December 17.

He said, “We had issued a look-out circular (LOC) in the name of Bikramjit. On December 17, the accused was about to leave the country from Mumbai airport. He was carrying an air ticket for Dubai.”

He said the Mumbai police has handed the accused over to the Punjab Police. “We have taken his remand for four days.”

The police had initially booked Saraj Mintoo, Shubham Singh and Dharminder Singh alias Goli Kazikot in the case, all of whom are still on the run.

On November 29, the police had arrested Vishal Sharma alias Bahman of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar and Kunwarbir Singh alias Kammy of Amritsar in connection with the case.

The DCP said, “After the interrogat­ion of Bahman and Kammy, we had booked Bikramjit, who had given his motorcycle to be used during the crime.”

He said, “Bikramjit was also wanted by the Sultanwind police in a case registered against him under Section 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 66 of the Informatio­n Technology (IT) Act.”

A fresh case under Sections 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against Bikramjit, he added.
