Alleging conspiracy, Karnal MC’s senior dy mayor resigns

KARNAL: Alleging political conspiracy against him, BJP local leader and senior deputy mayor of Karnal MC, Krishan Garg resigned from his post on Friday, just five months before the civic body goes to the polls.

In his resignation letter addressed to the office of Karnal municipal commissioner Priyanka Soni, Garg wrote, “I was elected from ward number 11 and given the responsibility of senior deputy mayor about two years ago. Besides this, I was also given the responsibility of a Nandigram and Gaushala constructed by Karnal MC. But for the past few days, some people have not been happy with my working and they weaved a political conspiracy against me.”

He said that he has decided to resign from the post of senior deputy mayor.

Deputy municipal commissioner Rohtash Bishnoi said, “Garg has submitted his resignation from the post of senior deputy mayor on Friday and I will submit it to commissioner Priyanka Soni, who was on leave.”

However, when contacted Karnal municipal corporation commissioner Priyanka Soni said, “As per the law the senior deputy mayor should submit his resignation in his own handwriting to the mayor instead of the commissioner’s office. The mayor is the competent authority to decide on it.”

Talking to HT, Garg, who is facing criticism from his political rivals over the death of two bulls in a Nandigram last week, said, “It is a political conspiracy by people in the BJP who are not happy with my hard work and want to shut the gaushala and the nandigram.”

Garg said he had also decided to resign from the post of in-charge of Nandigram and Gaushala but on the request of the other counsellors and city residents, he agreed to continue. As per the sources in the MC, Garg was being seen as threat to mayor Renu Bala Gupta in the elections due in May next year. His resignation may further help him to gain sympathy. When contacted, mayor Renu Bala Gupta denied her involvement in the alleged conspiracy.
