CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that the Central government had accepted state’s suggestion and withdrawn its draft prepared to put tractor in the commercial vehicles’ category. It will be a big gain for the farming community, he said.

Interacting with mediapersons after meeting Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi, Khattar said that after discussion, Gadkari had withdrawn the draft. He said discussion was also held regarding six-laning of the National Highway (NH) from Delhi to Hisar in view of the airport being set up in Hisar.

Gadkari directed the officials concerned to conduct a survey in this regard. It would also be linked with the Kundli-ManesarPalwal (KMP) Expressway to cover the distance from Hisar to KMP in 70 minutes.

It may be recalled that opposition parties Indian National Lok Dal and Congress had vehemently protested against the said draft in which tractor had been put in the category of commercial vehicles.

Meanwhile, Union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has also requested Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari to exclude tractors used for agricultural purpose from being considered as commercial vehicles.

She said,“This was having a detrimental effect on the lives of lakhs of farmers in the country.”
