Chess coach held for molesting Class-2 students in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: Police on Friday arrested a chess coach of Green Land Convent School here after two students of Class 2 accused him of molestatio­n.

Parents of various students of the school in New Subhash Nagar area earlier thrashed accused Daljit Singh, 50. However, the police and school staff intervened and rescued the accused from the irate parents.

Police then nabbed him and registered a case under Sections 354 (molestatio­n) of IPC and 10 and 11 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against him.

Two 6-year-old girls, both residents of Basti Jodhewal, had accused the coach of molestatio­n a couple of days ago.

On Friday, parents of the victims and other students reached the school and held a protest after making a complaint to the school authoritie­s. School managing director Rajesh Rudra and principal Jyoti Pujara called Daljit for his explanatio­n.

Meanwhile, parents became agitated and thrashed the coach.

Parents of one of the children said their daughter complained about inappropri­ate touch by the chess teacher on Wednesday. They brought the matter to the knowledge of the principal on the same day.

On Thursday, another student of same class made similar complaints. Her parents immediatel­y made a complaint to the school authoritie­s about it. They alleged that the accused molested girl students by luring them with chocolates.

The accused, a resident of of Shimlapuri, was appointed as chess coach by the school two years ago. The school management said they suspended Daljit Singh on Wednesday after receiving the first complaint.

Assistant commission­er of police (ACP-east) Pawanjit Chaudhary said the police are scanning CCTV cameras installed in the classroom.
