Lance Naik cremated with state honours in Bathinda

Lance Naik Kuldeep Singh, 31, killed during firing in ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Saturday, was cremated with full state honours at his native village, Koreana, on Monday.

Bathinda DC Diprava Lakra announced a compensati­on of ₹ 12 lakh and a government job to one family member of Kuldeep, who was recruited to the army in 2003.

He is survived by a wife, a physically-challenged mother, a six-year-old son and a two-yearold daughter.

“Of the money announced, ₹ 5 lakh will be given to the Lance Naik’s wife, ₹2 lakh to his mother and ₹5 lakh will be given to the family for purchase of residentia­l plot or house, in addition to a government job to one family member,” the DC added.

Deputy commission­er Lakra, SSP Navin Singla and other officers paid tribute to the Lance Naik.

Before the body was transporte­d to Kuldeep’s native village, Lieutenant General PC Thimmaya, general officer commanding, Chetak Corps, of Bathinda Cantonment, paid homage to Kuldeep by laying a wreath at the cantonment.

On Saturday, a major and three soldiers were killed on Saturday and another was injured in what the army described as unprovoked firing on Indian posts along the Line of Control in Keri sector of Jammu’s Rajouri district.
