GARG HAD TENDERED HIS RESIGNATION

TO THE COMMISSIONER; AS PER THE RULE, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE OFFICE OF MAYOR

KARNAL: Four days after BJP leader Krishan Garg resigned from his post as senior deputy mayor, his resignation was rejected as it had not been tendered to the right authority—the mayor.

As per information, Garg had tendered the resignation to deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) Rohtash Bishnoi as MC commissioner Priyanka Soni, was on leave. But as per rules, the commissioner is not the appropriate authority to accept the resignation. Section 39 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, states that the commissioner and the deputy municipal commissioner do not have the power to accept or reject the resignation of the senior deputy mayor or deputy mayor. Sources in the commissioner’s office told Hindustan Times, “We have not accepted the resignation and it will be delivered back to Garg.” When contacted, Karnal MC mayor Renu Bala Gupta said that she did not want to comment on why he did not submit the resignation to her office.

On the other hand, Garg said, “I have already resigned but I was not aware that the commissioner cannot accept the resignation. ”

He added, “I want to make it clear that I have resigned from the post of senior deputy mayor and will stand by this decision.”

Meanwhile, others in the political circles are terming Garg’s resignation as a “political drama” to gain sympathy in elections due next year. On December 22, Garg, who is also in-charge of Nandigram and Gaushala of the Karnal MC, had submitted his resignation after he was blamed for the poor management at Nandishala and Gaudham. The accusations came after two carcasses of oxen were found at Nandishala last week.
