SHIMLA: A week after taking over the reins, Himachal Pradesh chief minister (CM) Jai Ram Thakur appealed to the people on Tuesday, not to bring bouquets and garlands for him.

“We respect feelings of the people who voted the BJP to power, but I would like to appeal to all, kindly give your blessings and for that, a single flower stick will do,” the new CM said during a function at Ghannahatti.

Thakur, while on his way to Mandi town, was accorded a welcome at Ghannahatti. Thakur had maintained that his government will not follow VIP culture. Thakur, known for his simplicity, accentuated on Tuesday that his government will be a common man’s government.

He assured the people of Shimla rural assistance for development. “We are here to serve the people and not to boast of works unnecessarily,” he said, adding, “Work is worship for us and my government is committed to ensure the welfare of the people at large.

He added, “Our government will carry all-round development in the state. Our aim is to serve people for 15 years by ensuring equitable development and welfare of common man.”

Jai Ram, who addressed the gathering at Ghannahatti semiurban area falling in Shimla rural constituency represented by Vikramaditya, son of former CM Virbhadra Singh further said, “There was a close contest in Shimla rural. However, we have to work hard to ensure that the seat remains under BJP during the next elections.
