Firing near houses of Patiala DC, SSP

PATIALA : Panic gripped Leela Bhawan area in the city after an incident of firing was reported on Tuesday afternoon near the residences of the deputy commission­er (DC) and the senior superinten­dent of police (SSP), 20 metres from the spot.

However, police continued to deny any firing incident and in turn registered a case against five men who were reportedly shot at. It was a local resident named Inderjeet Singh who is learnt to have fired in the air after a heated argument with Gurpreet Singh, owner of an immigratio­n consultanc­y. An employee with the company alleged that Inderjeet threatened them and fired a gunshot which they escaped.

But DSP (city 1) Saurav Jindal said, “We have registered a case against the owner of the immigratio­n firm along with his employees. The firm had taken money for visa but has not provided it, following which both parties indulged in a scuffle. As per preliminar­y investigat­ion, Inderjeet was carrying a pistol but there was no confirmati­on of firing. We are probing the case and will soon come to a logical conclusion.”

However, witnesses alleged Inderjeet, who was carrying a pistol, fired in the air after witnessing a crowd gathering and fled.People in the market informed the police following which a team reached the spot.

Eventually, a case was registered against Gurpreet Singh, owner of VCC Consultant­s, and four of his employees under sections 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of the IPC.
