ROHTAK : A nine-month-old boy died after being smashed on the floor during a clash between two groups in Rohtak’s Kartarpura colony on Wednesday night.

The deceased, Jatin Kumar, was in his mother’s lap when a group of 15 men barged into their house and starting pelting stones.

They snatched him and smashed him on the floor, besides injuring other members of the family.

The clash allegedly started after two women of a group were molested by men of the other group.

Police said that Sunil, a Kartarpura resident, alleged that his sister-in-law and another woman were molested by family members of Krishna’s family on Wednesday near the railway lines.

He alleged that when he complained about it to Krishna, his family members attacked him and critically injured him and two others of his family and fired shots at them.

Police said family members of Sunil later barged into Krishna’s house equipped with weapons and killed his grandson Jatin.

The police have registered FIRs under relevant sections on the complaints of both the families against over 20 people, though no arrest has been made as of now.

Rohtak city police station in-charge inspector Jagbir Singh said those accused of murder are presently on the run.

“The families have a history of clash and they have been resolving their issues by holding panchayats rather than reporting the matter to police. They did not complain to us even about the alleged molestation,” he said.

Meanwhile, heavy security forces have been deployed in the colony to maintain peace.
