Will raise issue of disparities in compensation, says Himachal CM
MANDI : Himachal chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said on Thursday that his government will discuss the issue of disparities in compensation after acquisition of land and properties for the construction of Kirtpur-Manali four-lane highway.
The affected people of the highway have also formed a joint sangharsh samiti and have been organising protests and meetings with the administration and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) since April 2015 when the state government announced land acquisition for construction of the highway.
Meanwhile, the construction at various stretches, especially from Dhanotu area of Mandi district to Aut of Kullu district, is on a standstill due to protests, court cases and objections by the affected people.
A joint action committee is demanding implementation of provisions of the new Land Acquisition Act 2013.
The chief minister also said that the completion of already sanctioned highways for the hill state by the central government is on the priority list of his government. He further said that his government will not work with political vendetta and not try to complete the projects initiated by the previous state government led by Congress, stating that it laid foundation stones in a hurry and without provisions of the budget near the state assembly elections.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special and soft corner in his heart for the hill state and he has promised that there will be no shortage of funds for the all round development of the state.
“Himachal is a god-gifted state. It has lot of potential to convert its recourses to achieve the target of a progressive state and become a role model for the rest of the country,” Jai Ram said.
