Woman, her friend held for blackmailing bizman
KARNAL: A 35-year-old woman and her boyfriend were arrested by the Karnal police for allegedly blackmailing a businessman from Uttar Pradesh with a video of him in a compromising position.
Karnal civil line police station in-charge Mohan Lal said that the businessman, in his complaint, told the police that he had met the woman a few months ago at a hotel in Panipat. On December 31, the woman again called the businessman at her residence in Karnal.
This time, the woman had also called another girl at her house and asked the businessman to have physical relations with the girl and then allegedly recorded a video in her mobile.
She then started blackmailing him with the help of her boyfriend, identified as Sahil Kumar of Jhajjar, and demanded ₹20 lakh extortion for deleting the video.
On Friday, the business informed the police and called the woman to a private resort to give ₹6 lakh as the first instalment.
The police caught the woman and her boyfriend red-handed with the money and booked them under Section 420 (cheating), 384 (Punishment for extortion), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 120 B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police, meanwhile, said that investigation is going on to arrest another accused, Sunil Kumar, who had also helped the woman in the conspiracy.
