Lokayukta for dept action against senior IPS officer
FOR DERELICTION OF DUTY DURING HIS STINT AS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE GURUGRAM
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Lokayuka, justice (retd) Nawal Kishore Agarwal, has recommended departmental action against senior IPS officer Alok Mittal for dereliction of duty during his stint as commissioner of police (CP), Gurugram.
The action against Mittal was recommended by the Lokayukta last week, for allegedly delaying the registration of a first information report (FIR) on a complaint against BJP MP from Tonk-Sawai in Madhopur Sukhbir Jaunapuria, who was formerly the MLA of Sohna segment in Gurugram.
The complainant in the case, Ramanand Yadav, a resident of Gurugram, had accused Jaunapuria of cheating, fraud and forgery in a land-related case.
Yadav alleged that the Gurugram police, when Mittal was the commissioner of police, had delayed the registration of case against Jaunapuria under ‘political pressure’ for over an year and a half.
The Lokayukta observed in his order that all police officials, who looked into the matter, held it was prima facie a cognisable offence.
The Lokayukta held Mittal guilty of keeping the matter pending with him for a period of more than one-and-a-half years, because of which the complainant could not move the court.
The Lokakukta found him guilty of dereliction of his duties and recommended departmental action against him by a competent authority.
