KARNAL: Two days after a 15-yearold girl’s brutalised body was found near a canal in Budhakhera village of Jind’s Safidon town, police have detained six people of her native village of Jhansa in Kurukshetra district.

Police said the main accused is a Class-12 student, who lives in the victim’s neighbourhood. His name has not been disclosed by the police, as he is suspected to be a minor. The police, however, is trying to verify his age.

Police said teams have been formed to arrest the Class-12 student, who is still on the run.

“The police have detained some people suspecting their involvement but the main accused is still at large. We are conducting raids to arrest him,” said Kurukshetra superintendent of police Abhishek Garg.

FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE

The girl’s body was cremated on Sunday. Speaking to mediapersons, the victim’s father said, “My daughter was killed brutally, I want justice for her. I cannot fight a long battle for justice but I appeal to the police to send her criminals behind the bars.”

The victim had gone missing on January 9 when she had left home for tuition. A complaint was filed by the family members the same day.

“Why did the police take three days to find our daughter? Had the police acted on our complaint quickly, our daughter may have been alive,” the victim’s father said.

The 15-year-old’s semi-naked body was recovered near Budhakheda village of Jind district on Friday evening.
