Three killed as car plunges into pond in Moga village

MOGA: Three persons were killed when the car they were travelling in plunged into a pond at Buttar village in Moga district late on Saturday night. The deceased, Dharminder Singh, 28, Manpreet Singh, 26, and Mangaljeet Singh, 26, all friends and only sons of their families, were residents of Badhni Kalan village.

FARIDKOT: Three persons were killed when the car they were travelling in plunged into a pond at Buttar village in Moga district late on Saturday night.

The deceased, Dharminder Singh, 28, Manpreet Singh, 26, and Mangaljeet Singh, 26, all friends and only sons of their families, were residents of Badhni Kalan village.

Police said the three were coming from Jagraon after attending a party when Dharminder, who was behind the wheel, lost control over the vehicle after hitting constructi­on material dumped along the road.

The car overturned and fell into the pond.

Police said two residents of Butter village — Sukhjeevan Singh and Gurpreet Singh — saw the car light in the pond and informed the villagers, who rushed the three to the Moga civil hospital.

The doctors declared them brought dead.

Dharminder was running a cellphone shop while Manpreet and Mangaljeet were working at a cloth shop at Badhani Kalan village.

Dharminder and Mangaljeet were married.

Police said they have handed over the bodies of the victims to their families after conducting post-mortem examinatio­n and have initiated inquest proceeding­s under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
