INDIA’S WORST LOSSES IN SA

India have won just two Tests here. With one 300+ score in four innings, the batsmen have floundered.

1992 Port Elizabeth Test (India lost by nine wickets)

After being bowled out for 212 in the first innings, India were reduced to 31/6 with the top order scoring 5,0,6,0,7,7. Kapil Dev’s 129 could not save India as South Africa chased the target easily with Andrew Hudson scoring an unbeaten 95.

1996 Durban Test (India lost by 328 runs)

This was India’s worst batting display. In the first innings, Sourav Ganguly’s 16 was the top score as India were out for 100. In the second innings, they were out for 66. Rahul Dravid was the top-scorer with 27.

1997 Cape Town Test (India lost by 282 runs)

Tendulkar’s 169 and Azharuddin’s 115 helped India recover from Durban’s horror show but in the second innings, they crashed. Chasing 427, India were out for 144, with Laxman’s 35 and Ganguly’s 30 the only notable contributi­ons.

2010 Centurion Test (India lost by innings and 25 runs)

On a green deck, India capitulate­d for 136 with Morkel picking 5/20. Kallis’ 201 and centuries by Amla and De Villiers boosted the hosts to 620/4 dec. Despite Tendulkar’s 50th century helping India score 459, they suffered a heavy defeat.

2013 Durban Test (India lost by 10 wickets)

At 320/5, India looked set for a big score but Steyn ripped through the tail to dismiss them for 334. In the second innings, in reply to South Africa’s 500, Rahane stood tall by scoring 96 but the other batsmenfai­led as India were 223 all out.
