8 COPS HURT IN KASHMIR EXPLOSION
SRINAGAR: Eight policemen were injured after suspected militants hurled a grenade at the Tehsil office in south Kashmir’s Pulwama town on Friday evening, police said.
In a press statement, a police spokesperson called it a “cowardly act” and said the injuries were minor.
Doctors said all of them were in stable condition.
Security forces started a hunt for the militants in the area.
“The injured were shifted to Pulwama district hospital for treatment from where two of them, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shafi and Head Constable Ghulam Nabi, were shifted to 92 Base hospital Badami Bagh for further treatment,” the statement added.
MEHBOOBA ANGUISHED OVER KILLINGS
Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief and anguish over the killing of three persons during the cross border shelling in the RS Pura, Suchetgarh and Arnia sectors on Friday.
She said that it is very unfortunate that the people of border areas in the state continue to bear the brunt of cross border fire power.
She said Friday’s incidents of shelling are a proof that the people of the state are the worst victims of acrimony between the two neighbouring countries while appealing for cessation of hostilities on the borders.
OMAR ADVOCATES INDO-PAK TALKS
National Conference working president and Beerwah MLA Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed grave concern over ceasefire violations by Pakistan and strongly advocated IndoPak talks to end the bloodshed on International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in J&K.
“It’s a matter of grave concern that civilians are being targeted when we are supposed to have a ceasefire as a confidence building measure between India and Pakistan,” said Omar outside legislative assembly on Friday.
