Amritsar police bust gang of robbers; three arrested ‘Gangster’ nabbed by CIA wing
Police say the gang members were autorickshaw drivers and looted their passengers after taking them to secluded places; 10 stolen mobile phones also recovered
AMRITSAR : The district police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of three of its members from Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar, on Saturday. Police said the accused rode three-wheelers and looted their passengers after taking them to secluded places.
Those arrested were identified as Sarabjot Singh aka Sonu of Housing Board Colony, Kuldeep Singh aka Kala of Nirankari Colony and Pardeep Singh aka Pardeep of Faizalpura in Amritsar.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) (ADCP-C) Harjit Singh Dhaliwal said inspector Joga Singh of CIA staff Amritsar was patrolling at Ranjit Avenue with other police personnel when he received a tip-off that the accused ran such a gang there.
“The team was informed by an informer that the accused looted passengers in their threewheelers. Soon after getting information, the team arrested the accused and recovered 10 looted mobile phones from their possession.”
“A case under Sections 379 (punishment for theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the three at Civil Lines Police Station.
The accused will be produced in a local court for taking police remand. We are hopeful of more recoveries from them,” said the ADCP. AMRITSAR: The crime investigation agency (CIA) arrested an alleged gangster during patrolling at Gol Bagh T-Point in Amritsar on Saturday.
Police say the gangster, identified as Varun Kumar of Ganda Singh Colony on Tarn Taran road, Amritsar, was wanted in many cases including attempt to murder.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) (ADCP-C) Harjit Singh Dhaliwal said, “Inspector Joga Singh, in-charge of CIA Amritsar city, along with other policemen, were on patrolling from Hathi Gate to Hall Gate in Amritsar. When they reached near T-Point of Gol Bagh, they stopped a Hyundai i20 car on suspicion.”
“On checking, the team recovered 980 intoxicated medicines, a country-made pistol of .32 bore, five live rounds and a magazine. Soon after the recovery, the team arrested Varun, who was driving the car,” he said. He said, “A fresh case under Sections 21-22-61-85 of NDPS Act and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused at Civil Lines police station in Amritsar. He will be produced in a local court on Monday for seeking police remand.”
