MENTAL PEACE: THE PRIME REQUISITE OF GOOD LIFE

- Atul Sehgal

In human life, nothing is more important than the peace of mind. In daily moments of mundane living, you encounter situations that are depressing and elevating, calming and irritating. But life has to go on.

Equanimity of mind is important for leading a healthy, happy life. Mental peace is the prime thing. It forms the foundation of consistent growth and evolution. It is the bedrock of progress. It forms the key to happiness and good life. We all know well the importance of good temper. But, more often than not, we succumb to that instant irritation, which initiates rage. Why does this happen? There is a scientific basis to it. The way we respond to situations depends directly upon our internal state of the mind.

If the mind is dominated by tamasic elements, they will generate anger, hatred, fear, worry and depression. This internal condition will make us react to unfavorable situations. The seeds of anger are sown in the mind — conscious as well as subconscious. It is in the mind that anger has to be destroyed. If we succumb to anger, we lose the intellectual composure and start thinking illogically. This compounds our problems. Therefore, we must regulate our dietary and other lifestyle habits. This will help us maintain inner peace, in which lies happiness, success, fulfillment and human salvation. Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers.
