CHANDIGARH : Claiming that the Bollywood movie Padmaavat was screened in 33 cinema halls of Haryana’s nine districts on Thursday, director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu said strict action will be taken against those trying to disturb peace.

“At least seven theatres in Gurgaon screened the movie despite Wednesday’s violence. The attack on the school bus was an isolated and unfortunate incident,” the DGP said addressing a press conference at Panchkula.

He said no one will be allowed to take the law in his own hands and that strict action will be taken against the law breakers. He asked the cinema hall owners to get in touch with local police and the district administration concerned for security. “Security will be provided to cinema halls planning to screen the movie,” he said, pointing out that no untoward incident took place in any part of the state on Thursday.

He said 31 people were arrested in connection with Wednesday’s violence. While 18 people were held in connection with stone pelting at a school bus in Gurgaon, five people were nabbed in Kherki Daula and eight in other parts of the city. Preemptive arrests too were made.

The DGP said four FIRs were registered in connection with the incidents of violence in Gurgaon and Kurukshetra. While 23 persons were arrested in Gurgaon, two were arrested in Kurukshetra and eight were taken into preventive custody.
