Khattar launches smart power grid project in Panipat
10 LAKH SMART METERS WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE STATE TO HELP POWER DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES CUT TRANSMISSION LOSSES
PANIPAT: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday launched the smart grid project in Panipat under which 10 lakh smart electricity meters will be installed in the state to help the power distribution companies to cut line and transmission losses.
The CM was addressing a gathering at the inaugural function of the India-Japan smart grid pilot project here. Nearly 5 lakh smart meters will be installed this year while another 5 lakh will be installed in 2019, he said. The project was established by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam in collaboration with the Japanese private company New Energy Industrial Technology and Development Organisation (NEDO) at the cost of ₹145 crore and it will cover four feeders of the city division.
Now, the employees of the power department need not visit households for meter reading as the details of the power consumption by consumers will be available at the control room.
The CM announced that 15 per cent subsidy will be given to these consumers on the electricity consumed between 10pm to 5am. Of 14 such smart grid projects allotted across the country, the Panipat project is the first in collaboration with NEDO.
