GUNMAN HELD FOR THREATENIN­G SDM’S FAMILY SENT TO REMAND

FARIDABAD::A Haryana Police constable, deployed as a gunman with the Hodal sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Palwal district and was arrested for threatenin­g her family, was sent to twoday remand on Tuesday.

“He will be interrogat­ed to find out what was his motive,” a police officer said.

The constable, Sarfraz, was arrested on Monday after an FIR was registered against him.

The police said Mohinder Singh, father of Hodal SDM Preeti, lodged a complaint on February 3 against constable Sarfraz, bodyguard of her IAS daughter.

Mohinder had complained that they saw the constable mixing something suspicious in milk after which the family members fell ill.

“My wife kept a watch on him and on January 28 he was seen mixing something in the milk. When she snatched the bottle from him he flashed service revolver and threatened her with dire consequenc­es if she disclosed it to anyone,” Mohinder said in his complaint. The constable had allegedly stolen some items from their house also.

The police booked him under Sections 328,452,506,454,380 of the IPC and Sections 27-54-59 of the Arms Act.

“The gunman was immediatel­y replaced and a department­al inquiry was ordered,” said CS Rao, inspector general of police (South range).
