Complaint against Jind admn over cows starving to death
ROHTAK: Cow welfare NGOs have filed a police complaint against the Jind sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), deputy director of animal husbandry department and other administration officials over the rising number of cows’ deaths at the administration-run gaushala in the district.
A team of the Animal Welfare Board of India and Gau Gyan Foundation visited the temporary cow shelter run by the administration in front of Jayanti Devi Temple in the city, which is home to 4,000 cows.
The temporary cow shelter was started last year by the administration after the government started campaign to free roads of stray cattle amid increasing road accidents. However, the dismal condition of the bovines at gaushala has upset the residents who have demanded action against authorities.
The NGO teams said at least 10 to 20 cows were dying daily at the gaushala due to starvation and negligence of the authorities. “Where are the funds going? It is a clear case of negligence of the authorities that so many cows have died. Only one water tanker is available daily for 4,000 cows and insufficient fodder is served,” said Kriti Sachdeva, a member of the NGO.
The Jind city police station, where the complaint was submitted, did not register any case saying the matter was not in their jurisdiction. Inspector Jagbir said they will forward the complaint to the administration to take action.
