GURGAON: The Union ministry of home affairs has marked an inquiry against senior Haryana IPS officer Bharti Arora after a woman complained that the woman officer used her powers to harass her, sully her image and defame her.

In a communique to the chief secretary, Haryana, a home ministry official has asked for a probe into the allegations levelled by a resident of Ardee City, Gurgaon, who has been embroiled in a long war with Bharti Arora.

In the letter to Haryana chief secretary Mukesh Sawhney, the under secretary of the home ministry said, “I am directed to refer this subject and forward herewith a copy of complaint dated 17/4/ 2017 received from Ms .... (name withheld to protect identity) through central vigilance commission against Bharti Arora IPS, alleging harassment, corruption and misuse of official position (joint commissioner, Gurgaon). It is requested that appropriate action be taken in the matter and a detailed report sent to the ministry urgently.”

The woman complainant said Arora had misused her power and position to frame her in a case, defame her and also connived with a criminal accused against whom she had lodged a criminal complaint.

She also alleged Arora had ensured that a false production warrant was produced against her to put her in legal tangles. “This is a step in right direction and I hope now that action would be taken against her and justice will be delivered to me,” the complainant said. Arora denied the allegations and termed the letter “routine”. “She has been filing numerous complaints against me as I have exposed her for filing a series of false cases against people with an aim to extort money from them. She was also conniving with police officers and filing false cases. The complaint against her was marked to the CM and the governor’s office and I investigated it. I found that she was engaged in extortion and she is now using the same tactics against me,” the IPS officer said.
