Cong undecided on AICC plenary venue
CHANDIGARH: There is still uncertainty on the timing of first plenary session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) after Rahul Gandhi's election as party president. Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh met Rahul at New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed the possibility of holding the session in Punjab. The Karnataka unit of the party had earlier proposed to hold the session in Bengaluru, but it was decided not to hold it in the poll-bound state. However, Delhi too is being considered.
The party is keen to hold the session in March or April, but the Parliament session will resume in March and the budget session of Punjab too will be held from March second week.
In April, there is possibility of polls being declared in Karnataka and four northeastern states. “Holding the AICC session close to state elections will divert focus. So it may be held after the Karnataka polls,” a senior party leader said.
The CM was accompanied by PPCC chief and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar and party general secretary in-charge Asha Kumari. Jakhar said Rahul will take a call on the dates and venue in a day or two.
Their discussion featured revamping of the organisational structure of the PPCC in order to strengthen the unit and prepare for next year’s parliamentary elections, a spokesperson said after the meeting.
