CASHLESS ECONOMY: A REALITY CHECK

The government has been advocating the benefits of cashless economy, but the ground realities are discouraging. I tried to support the move by paying the electricity bills of UHBVN Ltd (a Haryana government venture) online. To my surprise, I lost Rs 500 due to the transaction charges levied by UHBVN. I could have easily saved this money, had I issued a Payee’s Account cheque. My bankers claim they cannot reverse the entry. I wonder why we should opt for online payments.
