JAMMU: Massive searches were launched in and around Samba cantonment on Jammu-Pathankot highway on Friday morning after a local claimed to have seen two armed men wearing black uniforms with backpacks in Katli village near an army unit.

Samba, it may be stated, has its own brigade and several army formations with army schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said, “A local claimed to have seen two men in black uniforms with weapons and backpacks.”

“Though there is no contact, the searches are on,” he added.

As a precautionary measure, army schools and KVs have been closed, he informed.

The local Shamsher Singh, 38, a labourer, had spotted the two suspects in Katli village around 4.50 am. As per reports, the duo asked him about a route that further aroused his suspicion.

The villager again confronted them at a distance and created an uproar over their presence in the village, said reports adding that by the time other villagers woke up and came out of their houses, the two men had fled from the spot in the cover of darkness.

The army’s black uniform is worn by officers and men from the armoured corps.

While Samba has an armoured regiment, its headquarters is based at Mamoon cantonment in Pathankot.

Soon after the local approached the nearest army unit and narrated about the two men, army’s quick reaction teams and police launched search operations.
