Electric taxis flagged off, will ply on nine routes in Shimla
SHIMLA : Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday flagged off electrical taxi service of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme of the state government of India in the 90:10 ratio.
The chief minister flagged off 11 electric vans linking local destination in Shimla from the state secretariat on nine different routes.
The fare will remain the same as of HRTC taxis already operating within the municipal corporation limits of the town.
The taxis will operate from the state secretariat to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), old bus stand to state secretariat, Dhalli Tunnel to IGMC, Boileauganj to CTO, old bus stand to CTO, Titu kandi crossing to CTO, Navbahar to IGMC, Summerhill to CTO.
As many as 50 electric vehicles have been provided to the state under the scheme.
The chief minister said, “The electrical cabs will also be introduced in other districts in a phased manner.”
He also said one taxi requires eight hours charging to ply on the Shimla roads throughout the day.
Education minister Suresh Bhardwaj; urban development minister, Sarveen Chaudhary; agriculture minister Ram Lal Markanda and transport minister, Govind Singh were present on the occasion.
