CBI HAS ALSO NAMED HIS WIFE IN THE CHARGESHEET FOR HER ACTIVE ASSOCIATION AND ABETMENT IN ACQUISITION OF ASSETS

PANCHKULA: Arrested for accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 in July 2015, the central bureau of investigation (CBI) has found disproportionate assets worth more than ₹2 crore with a railway official from Kaithal.

His wife has also been charged as accused for abetting her husband to acquire wealth through corrupt practices.

In the chargesheet that was filed recently in the special court of Jagdeep Singh, the CBI claimed that Navneet Kumar Goel, who has been suspended from his service as the senior section officer, had acquired disproportionate assets to the tune of ₹2.09 crore between 1987 — when he joined the government job — and 2015, against the total income of ₹59 lakh earned by him during the above period.

It was also found that most of the movable and immovable assets acquired by accused were in the name of his wife Sarita Goel, who is a housewife and had no independent source of income.

Her active association and abetment in acquisition of disproportionate assets was also revealed during the probe, the CBI added.

Both Goyal and his wife have been charged under Section 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act along with Section 109 of the Indian Penal code (IPC).

The case is now listed for March 21 for consideration on charges. Both are currently on bail.

CBI has alleged that no assets were found in possession of the accused before he joined the services and all properties were amassed by him through ‘corrupt practices’.

The accused also withheld information on the sale and purchase of immovable properties, the CBI claimed.

As per CBI, of the total disproportionate income, their movable assets including fixed deposits were to the extent of ₹1.53 crore, while the rest were immovable ones.

It was also learnt that Sarita also tried to hush up the disproportionate assets collected by her husband after his arrest, but that was traced in one such transaction.
