Four cops hurt as Kaithal villagers attack police team

KAITHAL: Four police personnel from Jind were allegedly thrashed by agitated villagers when they reached Balu village of Kaithal district to arrest a person for his alleged involvemen­t in a murder case. .

Assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) Karnail Singh, Krishan Kumar, Ravinder Kumar and head constable Sanjay Kumar sustained injuries after villagers attacked them with sticks and bricks.

Police said Karnail sustained serious injuries on his head and they were all admitted to the civil hospital in Kaithal.

Talking to HT, Jind DSP Kaptan Singh said the police booked around 40 people, including 18 by name, under various charges, including attempt to murder.

However, no arrest has been made yet, he added.

The DSP said the Jind police team had conducted a raid to nab Sanjeev Kumar of Balu village for interrogat­ion as they had evidence about his involvemen­t in a blind murder of Shamsher Singh of Sandheel village of Jind district in 2008.

He said that police team reached the village and detained the accused. But the villagers got agitated and they attacked the police team with sticks and bricks. The villagers also got the accused released from the police.

The police fired in the air to control the villagers who also damaged the police vehicle.

Kaithal SP Astha Modi said, “Four police personnel sustained injuries in the attack by villagers and the police investigat­ion was going on.”

Kalayat police station in-charge Lalit Mohan said the police are investigat­ing how many people were actually involved in the attack and they will be arrested soon.
