5 booked for duping Tarn Taran man of ₹16 lakh
TARN TARAN : The Chohla Sahib police of the district on Sunday booked five people for allegedly duping man of ₹16 lakh on the pretext of sending him to France.
The accused have been identified as Gaivin Garg, Mast Ram of Urban Estate, Patiala; Deep Arora, Jagdev Singh and Lovepreet Singh of Jaura village in Hoshiarpur district.
In his complaint to the police, Sikandarjit Singh of Bhathal Sehja Singh village, falling in the Chohla Sahib town of Tarn Taran district said, “Last year, the accused had taken ₹16 lakh from me on the promise of sending me to France. However, neither did they send me abroad, nor did they return my money despite repeated requests to them to return the money.”
The victim added, “They were always making one excuse or the other not to return the money taken by them.”
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ranjit Singh of Chohla Sahib police station said the victim had lodged his complaint with the police on October 9, 2017.
After he lodged the complaint, it was investigated by the superintendent of police (SP) investigation, Tilak Raj.
After the completion of the investigation, in which the superintendent of police (SP) found that the complaint was genuine and a case under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused, who are absconding. Efforts are on to nab them.
The victim, however, said the accused told him last year that they would send him to France in an illegal way, but he declined their offer.
The victim alleged the accused are running a big nexus of duping the youth of Punjab on the pretext of sending them abroad and demanded their arrest.
The complainant said, “I visited Patiala many a time for requesting the accused to give back my money or send me to France as promised by them, but in vain.”
