3 killed, 25 injured in road accident in J&K

TRUCKBUS COLLISION A driver lost control and rammed his truck into a bus on the JammuPatha­nkot highway

JAMMU : At least three persons, including a minor girl, were killed and 25 others were injured in a truck-bus collision near Hiranagar on Jammu-Pathankot national highway on Sunday.

Police said, around 10 am, the driver of a fully loaded truck coming from Pathankot’s side lost control over the vehicle and crossed over to the opposite lane at Mela Morh, few kilometres short of Hiranagar town.

After scaling the road divider, the truck rammed into a bus carrying passengers from Jammu.

A bike coming from behind the bus got trapped between the two vehicles. The truck pushed the bus down the road as it rolled down a few yards into the adjoining field.

Soon after the mishap, locals along with the police rescued the passengers and shifted them to the nearby sub-district hospital in Hiranagar town.

As many as 18 injured were shifted to government medical college hospital in Jammu.

Two passengers died on the spot while third succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Deputy medical superinten­dent, GMC Jammu, Rakesh Sharma said,“Two of the 18 referred here have sustained critical injuries and doctors are monitoring their condition. Rest of the patients are stable.”

The deceased were identified as Prachi Sharma of Kathua, 8, Som Dutt of Kootah village, and Abhi Dubey of Hiranagar, 25.

It is learnt that the truck driver and the two persons on the bike have also been injured in the mishap.

Police have registered a case and initiated investigat­ions.
