SOURCES IN THE CM’S FLYING SQUAD SAID THEY WILL ALSO GET THE VOICE SAMPLING OF THE ACCUSED AND THE WITNESSES DONE TO STRENGTHEN THE CASE

PANCHKULA : Three persons who had paid money to get jobs for their kin told a local court on Tuesday how rampantly one of the eight accused, who were arrested by Haryana chief minister’s flying squad on April 5, sought bribe in lieu of government jobs through the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC).

The three witnesses, identified by the flying squad on the basis of their phone numbers and the call details of the conversations between them and accused Anil Kumar, an assistant working in the HSSC, were presented by the squad with a plea to get further remand of l Kumar.

They told the court under Section 164 of CrPC the amount of money given to Kumar and the time and place of the incident.

Interestingly, they pointedly said that they also smelt a rat in the deal as their kin had very good marks in written exams and were in the merit list. This also indicated that the accused played a safe game by cherrypicking the merit candidates as the chances of high scoring candidates getting job was high and for them, they did not have to involve anyone else.

One of the witnesses (anonymity requested), who hailed from Sirsa, told the court that though he was to give Rs 7.5 lakh to Kumar for selection of two of his relatives – a staff nurse and a staff attendant in the health department, he got alerted when he noticed that one of his kin was among the toppers and had very less marks in the interview, despite promise by the accused of ensuring maximum marks in it. He thus got reluctant to give money to Kumar.

He said that though Kumar desperately kept on calling him, he deliberately delayed the payment.

Another witness, who hailed from Gohana (Sonepat), told the court that he had paid Rs 2 lakh to Kumar in lieu of a job of a driver in the Haryana Roadways for a kin and paid the money at Zirakpur local bus stand on March 10, 2018.

In this case also, his kin had scored well in the written exam.

The third witness, a resident of Chandigarh, who had given Rs 4 lakh to Kumar in lieu of a clerical job in the roadways, told the court that he got in touch with Kumar through a mediator and gave the money at Sector 19, Panchkula railway crossing, on March 20.

He said he had arranged the money after mortaging jewellery of his family. His family had also noticed that the candidate was already among the toppers in the written exam, he said.

VOICE SAMPLING AHEAD

Meanwhile, sources in the flying squad said that they would also get the voice sampling of the accused and the witnesses done so as to make their case further stronger.
