‘Our system is 100% fair and foolproof, jobs given on merit basis’

- HT Correspondent letterschd@hindustantimes.com

Even as the allegations of involvement of some bigwigs in cash-for-job racket involving five employees of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and three others, are flying thick and fast, HSSC chairman Bharat Bhushan Bharti told HT on Tuesday that the panel’s system is 100% fair and fool-proof and all selections have till date have been on merit basis. He also said that no recruitment process has been halted or put on hold because of the scam. Excerpts from an interview:

How can you say the HSSC system is fair and foolproof as five of its employees have been arrested in the case?

We have so far undertaken selection of about 24,000 candidates on the requisition of different departments and I would say it with all conviction to all the selected candidates that our system is 100% fair and foolproof and all the selections till date have been made on the merit basis. And, no recruitment process has been halted or put on hold because of this episode (scam).

It is still not clear that how could the accused HSSC employees run the racket had there been no flaw or loophole in the system.

It is for the special investigation team (SIT) of the CM’s flying squad to find out. I and the commission members offer full cooperation for this probe. Hum bhi chahte hain ke doodh ka doodh aur paani ka panani ho. (We too want the truth to come out). And the SIT people are also coming and searching different types of records and equipment. We fully support it.

There are allegations of involvement of some members and other officials too. Any comments?

I would repeat what I have said about the system and also that all of us are ready for any cooperation or support.

Do you think the episode would have any adverse impact on the process or the earlier selections?

I believe it would not. All the candidates know and everyone in the commission knows well that there cannot be any tinkering with the process as these are is online computerbased tests. We are continuing with the process and a test is currently on while we are talking here. We also want that the culprit who did whatever is coming in the media be dealt with sternly.
