KARNAL: A girl student has accused an assistant professor of the Kurukshetra University (KU) of molestation and threatening to harm her academically, if she revealed the matter to anyone.

The girl, who is a first-year student of B Pharmacy at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the university, has alleged that assistant professor Dhirender Kaushik had called her in his office room and molested her.

The police have registered an FIR against the accused under Section 354 A, 509 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started investigations.

In her police complaint, the girl alleged that after calling her to his office, the professor offered her a chocolate. “He also gave me his mobile number and asked me to call him up saying that he could help her in getting good marks in exams. He also held my arm,” she added in the complaint. She further said that the assistant professor also threatened her that he would “get her marks cut” in the exams if she would reveal the matter to anyone.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Kurukshetra police station in-charge Praveen Kaur said, “On the complaint of the girl student, we have registered an FIR against assistant professor Dhirender Kaushik and started a probe.”

“He has not been arrested yet. We are investigating the case. We need more evidence to arrest him and we have approached the vice-chancellor of the university for more details about the accused,” she added.

Accused Kaushik was not available for comments despite HT’s repeated attempts to contact him over phone.

He also threatened me that he would get my marks cut in the exams if she would reveal the matter to anyone. VICTIM
