17-year-old girl on Friday stated before the child welfare committee (CWC) that she was allegedly raped by a man at a house in Lajpat Nagar area of Ghaziabad and was later rescued by locals.

A CWC member said the girl was, prima facie, visually impaired and that the victim said she had lost her father about a week ago. She also told CWC that her mother had died years ago.

According to the CWC officials, the girl is from Deoria district in UP and was rescued by police on April 12 after which she was sent for counselling to the CWC Ghaziabad.

“During the session, she told us that her mother had died in her childhood while her father died around 7-10 days ago. Their landlord in Lajpat Nagar had got them evicted. Thereafter, she was raped by a man who gagged her mouth and left her locked in a room. She seems to be visually impaired,” Shalini Singh, member, CWC, said.

However, the parents of the girl were found to be alive and they spoke to Hindustan Times from Deoria. They said the girl was not living in Ghaziabad but was with them till April 11.

“She is one of our four daughters and left our house on Wednesday (April 11) when no one was present in the house. She locked the house and left the keys outside. Only she will be able to say why she ran away to Ghaziabad. Some time ago, we had sent her to the house of our acquaintance in Ghaziabad but later, her father brought her back,” the girl’s mother said.

“She is not completely visually impaired — she has partial vision loss, which she suffered after a prolonged illness.
