PSEB CLASS 12: LUDHIANA GIRL POOJA IS TOPPER

CHANDIGARH: Girls outshone boys in the Class 12 Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) exams, the result of which was declared on Monday, with overall pass percentage being recorded at 65.97%, marginally up from 65.33%last year. Pooja Joshi of Teja Singh Suttantar Memorial School in Ludhiana, topped the state by scoring 98% marks, while the second position was bagged by Vivek Rajput of the same school.

Girls in Punjab secured the top positions in the academics and sports categories in the Class-12 board examinatio­ns conducted by the Punjab School Education Board, results of which were announced on Monday. The total pass percentage stands at 65.97%.

Pooja Joshi of Ludhiana’s Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School topped the exams by scoring 98% marks (academics) in humanities stream, Vivek Rajput, also from the same school, stood second with 97.55% marks in non-medical stream while Jasnoor Kaur of Muktsar’s Dasmesh Girls Senior Secondary Public School secured third position with 97.33% marks in commerce stream.

In the sports category, Prachi Gaur and Pushwinder Kaur of BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, Ludhiana, claimed the top two positions with 100% marks each, closely followed by Mandeep Kaur from Faridkot’s Sant Mohan Das Memorial Senior Secondary School with the score of 99.56%. The overall pass percentage this year has increased by .64%.

The board had deployed several measures to stop cheating during these exams. Students were not allowed to choose their own schools as the exam centres. And, instead of three different sets of question papers, the sequence of the questions was changed. However, result of around 18,000 students, of total 3.04 lakh, is still awaited.

Board chairman Manohar Kant Kalohia said, “The students with ‘result awaited’ are either giving retests or under vocational courses and national skill qualificat­ion framework.”
