3 held, 7 booked in Panipat for ‘selling’ two minor sisters

The Panipat police have busted a human trafficking racket with the arrest of three women who allegedly ‘sold’ two minor sisters in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The action was taken following orders of the secretary of district legal services authority (DLSA) and chief judicial magistrate Mohit Agrawal.

The accused have been identified as Kusum Rani, Hina and Anita Sharma. They were produced in a local court and sent to two-day police remand on Wednesday. The police have booked a total of seven persons in this connection.

Another accused Gaurav, who is son of main accused Kusum, was already in jail in another case.

The police said three more accused Muniya, Maya and Choti Devi are on the run.

The police said that after questioning the accused, they will try to recover the two girls.

The parents of the girls said their daughters, who were aged 16 and 10, went missing from the slum area of Sector 24 of Panipat about two years ago. They alleged that they had approached the police when they went missing, but the police did not register an FIR. Later, they filed an application to Mohit Agrawal, who directed the police to register an FIR against the accused and start investigations.

However, Chandni Bagh SHO Suresh Kumar refuted the allegations and said the parents of the two girls did not file any complaint with the police earlier.

The SHO said the police have now registered an FIR against seven people under Section 366 A and 365 of the IPC.
