KARNAL: The Yamunanagr police have booked 10 people, including former Haryana minister and Congress leader Nirmal Singh, for alleged firing over a contractor in a mining zone of Yamunanagar district.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Khizrabad police station in-charge Balraj Singh said, “We have registered the FIR against ten people, including Nirmal Singh, on the complaint of a contractor, Karan Singh.”

He said that the investigations are on in the case, but nobody has been arrested yet.

He said the FIR was registered under Section 307, 395, 148, 149 of the IPC and the Arms Act.

However, police sources said three people have already arrested in the case.

Complainant, Karan Singh, a resident of Mandoli village of Yamunanagar, alleged that his JCB machine was working on a path which is used by contractors in mining zone of Ballewala area of Yamuanagar. Around 8:30 pm on Tuesday, Nirmal Singh along with Sultan and Aslam, reached the spot and asked them to stop the work. When Karan refused to do so, the accused allegedly fired at him and fled the spot.

Karan said that he escaped unhurt but the bullet hit the JCB machine.

Sources said Nirmal Singh has a farm house in nearby Belgarh village and the mining trucks use the path going to Nirmal Singh’s farm.

According to Karan, the area is illegally occupied by the mining mafia and they do not allow anybody to have access to this region. He urged the police to provide him security, alleging threat from the accused.

When contacted, Yamunanagar SP Rajesh Kalia confirmed that the FIR has been registered and investigations are on.
