All seats in a 78-seater flight have been booked, which will be operational from Adampur airport to Delhi on May 1, airport authorities said, adding that 90% of seats for the second flight have been booked, which will take off a week ahead of the day first flight will be functional.

The deputy commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday visited the airport to review the preparations for the event.

Sharma was apprised by the staff of Airport Authority of India and Spice Jet that the seats for the maiden flight have already been sold out. They also told the DC about 90% bookings for the second flight. Spice Jet officials informed the DC that the flight was receiving a good response from people as they were seeking tickets in large numbers.

Meanwhile, Sharma asked the airport staff to ensure elaborate arrangements for making the event a huge success.

He said full efforts must be made to ensure that the historic function was organised in a smooth manner.

He said the airport once operational, will provide air connectivity to the region with the rest of the globe.

Besides saving time, money and energy of people, especially the non-resident Indians from the region, the airport will also boost the economic development of the region in general and Jalandhar city in particular.

Sharma said the airport will also boost the medical tourism and industrial development in media capital of the state.
