Smuggler arrested with 1kg heroin, pistol in Tarn Taran
AMRITSAR:The Tarn Taran police claimed to have arrested a smuggler during a nakabandi at the drain bridge of Bhuse Rakh village, 30 kms from Tarn Taran district headquarters, on Wednesday. The arrested man has been identified as Sartaj Singh aka Teja of Sara-E-Amanat Khan.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Darshan Singh Mann said a team led by station house officer (SHO) of Sara-EAmanat Khan police station Baljinder Singh Bajwa laid a naka at the drain bridge of Bhuse Rakh village.
“During the nakabandi, the team stopped a Bajaj Platina bikeborne man on suspicion and recovered one kg heroin, a country made pistol of .315 bore, and a live cartridge from his possession,” he said.
Mann said that during investigation, they came to know that the accused was a proclaimed offender (PO) and wanted in seven criminal cases, including attempt to murder.
He said the accused was earlier booked under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt), 348 (wrongful confinement to extort confession, or compel restoration of property), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 414 (assisting in concealment of stolen property), 489 (tampering with property mark with intent to cause injury), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 449 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 25-54-59 of the Arms Act and 21-22-61-85 of the NDPS Act at different police stations of Tarn Taran district.
He said a fresh case under Section 21-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered against him at Sara-E-Amanat Khan police station.
“We have taken Sartaj’s remand after presenting him in a local court. More recoveries are likely to be made after interrogation,” he said.
