INLD, BSP demand relief for farmers

CHANDIGARH: The first joint working committee meeting of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) held in Kurukeshtra on Wednesday expressed concern over the destruction of around 3,000 acres of wheat in Haryana due to fires and urged the state government to pay compensation at a rate of Rs 45,000 per acre to the affected farmers.

The meeting, in which five resolutions were passed, also flayed the ruling BJP for holding the Dalits responsible for violence during the Bharat Bandh organised on April 2 to protest against the “dilution” of the SC/ST Act and asked the government to release them.

In another resolution, concern was expressed over the “deteriorating law and order” in the state, besides rising prices of petroleum products, an INLD release said.

Both the parties also expressed concern at the functioning of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and said that the manner in which a job racket in the HSSC had been exposed had shaken the confidence of the youth. They demanded the commission be dissolved and a high-level inquiry into its functioning be instituted. The meeting attended by senior INLD leaders, including Abhay Chautala, state party president Ashok Arora, Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala, senior BSP leader Megh Raj, state BSP president Prakash Bharati and party’s in-charge for Haryana Rajbir Singh, the release said
