HHRC SEEKS REPORT FROM EDUCATION DEPT

: The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has sought from the school education department a detailed report on the safety of school children, especially about their transporta­tion arrangemen­ts.

Taking a suo motu notice of recent road mishaps in which some casualties were also reported, the HHRC directed the director, primary school education, to submit a detailed report.

Citing media reports, HHRC chairperso­n justice (retd) SK Mittal and member justice (retd) KC Puri said in their order that it had come to their notice that 27% government schools in Haryana required repairs and there was also shortage of toilets and potable drinking water in the schools.

Referring to April 30 road mishap in Charkhi Dadri in which five people, including three school children, were killed, the HHRC said that it was also reported that the bus was on its way to drop children to their home and that the driver was untrained. The order said that many school bus accidents had been reported in the recent past in which many children had been killed and injured. Asking for a report, the order directed the primary school education director to look into the matter and submit a detailed report on children’s safety.
