CHANDIGARH : The Haryana Congress will hold a Dalit Maha Sammelan in Karnal on May 27 to “raise voice over increasing crimes” against the people belonging to scheduled castes (SCs), state party president Ashok Tanwar said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here, Tanwar said he would restart the second phase of his ‘cycle yatra’ from Sirsa on May 17, which would conclude on May 21. “It was undertaken to apprise the people of the state of failure of the ruling BJP on all fronts,” he said and alleged that the government had failed to hold recruitments in a fair manner, check mining mafia and the crimes against poor people.

On the recently held Congress rally in New Delhi which was addressed by party president Rahul Gandhi, he said the workers of the state who “contributed extraordinarily” for the rally, would be felicitated at a function scheduled to be held in Jind on May 13.

Asked if the end to the pagadi (turban) culture at rallies indicative of an attempt of the national leadership to check bickering within the party, he replied in the negative and said it was rather an attempt to unite all workers irrespective of their region or personal choice of leaders, which might vary.

Regarding separate programmes being held by different sections of Congress leaders in Haryana, he refuted any bickering in the party and said all the leaders were working for the party and would come at one dais when required.
