SHIMLA : A 56-year-old trader was brutally killed by three men who attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and later ran a car over him at Chakka road near Baddi late on Sunday night.

The victim was identified as Harjinder Singh, who ran a LED lights business on the Chakka road in Baddi and was a cousin of former Doon MLA Ram Kumar.

Meanwhile, police have arrested two accused involved in the crime while the hunt to nab other absconding accused is on. Main accused Ramesh Dhawan was arrested from the inter-state border with Punjab, deputy superintendent of police Khajan Ram said.

Police said the murder was result of a land dispute that had cropped between the deceased and accused Dhawan. Harjinder had started construction on the disputed land and Dhawan objected to it.

Both Dhawan and Harjinder had agreed to demarcate the disputed land. Later, Dhawan had a heated exchange with Harjinder’s domestic help which flared up the tension. Dhawan, on Sunday evening, drove to the disputed land and attacked Harjinder with a sharp- edged weapon and then along with his two accomplice ran the car over him. Agitated locals resorted to a sitin-protest on the Sai Road.

CONGRESS CHIEF FLAYS INCIDENT

State Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu condemned the killing and said the series of the murders in the state during the recent days reflected adversely on the government.
