Over 12 carcasses of stray cattle found on govt land in Hisar village

-

Over a dozen carcasses of stray cows and bulls were found on a government land on the premises of Central Sheep Breeding Farm, Hisar, on Monday.

Residents of Thaska village, about seven kms from the city, noticed the carcasses of the cattle and informed Rampat Singh, husband of sarpanch Sulochana Rani, who further informed the members of gaushala.

“Stray cows and bulls stay at this abandoned place since years. However, since past some time, villagers started experiencing a stench, which increased with every passing day. I came to know about the dead animals on Sunday evening and checked the area. We have found more than 12 dead animals including cows and bulls. The land belongs to the state government, but is under the Central Sheep Breeding Farm,” Rampat told mediapersons.

Around two dozen stray cattle still inhabit the said land.

The villagers demanded that the government must arrange proper facilities for stray cattle as the animals were dying due to “non-availability of proper food”.

The villagers also decided to meet the additional deputy commissioner (DC), Hisar, Ashok Kumar, to take action into the matter and to take stray cows and bulls at the gaushala so the animals can get proper food and treatment.

Villager Banarasi Dass and Kanha Ram said, “The condition of the stray cattle is very poor here. Animals do not get proper food and water. Soon after the villagers came to know about the dead animals, the villagers arranged fodder for the alive cattle in the premises and contacted different gaushala to take them away.”

When contacted, director, Central Sheep Breeding Farm, Hisar, LC Ranga, said, “I came to know about the matter from villagers on Monday. We will intimate the Hisar DC regarding the same.”

Ranga said the area where stray cattle are staying has become a natural habitat for them. “This is also true that when a cow grows old and stop providing milk, villagers of adjoining village leave it here. The villagers must understand that such animals should be handed over to gaushalas and not abandoned, for them to get proper food and treatment,” he said.
