Govt inciting caste divide, alleges Dalal, seeks FIR

-

CHANDIGARH:Accusing the ruling BJP government of inciting caste divide in the state, senior Congress MLA Karan Dalal on Monday demanded the government’s dismissal and registration of a case against the officials responsible for putting a ‘controversial’ question in a recent Haryana staff selection commission (HSSC) exam, which had an alleged insulting reference to Brahmins.

Dalal said it was surprising that neither CM Manohar Lal Khattar nor any minister or MLA has apologised for the same.

The question was on bad omen prevalent in Haryana and the answer options were: an empty pot, a casket filled with oil, a black Brahmin or sighting a Brahmin girl.

However, the HSSC had apolgised for the same and withdrawn the question last week.

While the HSSC question had angered the Brahmins, who protested in parts of state, especially in Sonepat and Jind, its leaders held a meeting in Rohtak that was chaired by Brahmins’ national body vice-president Randhir Bhardwaj on Monday. They decided to submit a memorandum to the government and seek stern action against responsible officials.

Meanwhile, terming Dalal’s allegations as childish, Haryana BJP spokesperson Jawahar Yadav said that Dalal probably doesn’t know that the book from which the said question was taken was published by the Congress government in 2012.

“BJP government is correcting the mistakes committed by the Congress,” he said.
