FRESH SNOW HITS CLEARANCE OPS AT ROHTANG

SHIMLA:The higher hills of Himachal experience­d mild snowfall on Monday, while the mid and low hills saw rainfall, the weather bureau said.

The fresh bout of snowfall has impacted the snow clearance on 13,050 feet high Rohtang pass, gateway to tribal Lahaul and Spiti district.

The capital town of Shimla received rainfall, however, the high reaches in Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, and LahaulSpit­i district, experience­d snowfall, director Shimla metrologic­al office Manmohan Singh said.

“Snowfall has affected snow clearance in Rohtang pass,” said Border Road Task Force Commander-38 AK Awasthi. The border road organisati­on had opened Rohtang pass for traffic on April 5. “Snowfall has also hit the clearance work at 16,040 feet high Baralachal­a and at 4,270m feet high Zing Zing Bar. There was fresh snow at Jispa in Lahual and Spiti. The tourist point Marhi, 35 kilometers uphill to Manali, also received 8 inches of snowfall.

RAIN LASHES PARTS OF JAMMU REGION

JAMMU: Rains lashed most parts of Jammu region bringing down the morning temperatur­e by about four degrees while the high-altitude areas of Chenab region including Gandoh and Bhadarwah valley experience­d unseasonal snowfall on Monday. Jammu recorded a maximum temperatur­e of 33.1° C, while the minimum temperatur­e was recorded at 18.8.
