GURDASPUR : The district police have arrested three persons on the charge of duping a finance company of lakhs and trying to sell the trucks financed by the company by changing chassis number and preparing fake registration papers.

Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) HS Bhullar said the accused are Daljit Singh, Gurpreet Singh, both residents of Amritsar, and Jasbir Singh, a resident of Sheen Bhattian Daljit. Daljit also runs a transport company in Chattisgarh.

The SSP said on a tip off a 14-tyre truck (PB 11 CB 5975) being driven by Daljit Singh was stopped for checking at Bridge Tughalwal under Kahnuwan police station on Tuesday. Daljit failed to produce the required documents of the truck, following which the police arrested him along with two other occupants of the truck, Jasbir and Gurpreet.

Bhullar said during interrogation, the accused confessed that they had bought the truck from Chattisgarh to Punjab after changing the chassis and registration details and were looking for a customer to sell it further.

He said with the help of a welder, Sandeep Singh, they used to replace the original numbers and the Punjab Police constable Gurpreet Singh posted at Patiala used to help in preparing fake documents. Both are yet to be arrested. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered. The SSP said Daljit had got 13 trucks financed from Chattisgarh-based finance company. Unable to pay the instalments, the company seized eight trucks whereas Daljit in connivance with constable brought rest of the five trucks to Punjab. HTC
