SIX BOOKED FOR EXTORTING ₹37 LAKH FROM BATHINDA MAN

Six people, including a woman, have been booked for allegedly extorting ₹37 lakh from a man by threatenin­g to implicate him in a rape case, police said on Thursday.

On the complaint of one Angrej Singh of Katar Singh Wala village, Nirbhay Singh of Malout, Harmit Kaur of Jalandhar, Jaswinder Singh, Baljinder Singh, Sukhbir Singh and Rajesh Kumar of Barnala were booked under Section 384 of the IPC.

The complainan­t alleged that the accused extorted the said amount from him in the past nine months. The case has been registered after a probe by economic offences wing of district police.

2 WOMEN ARRESTED IN ANOTHER CASE

Two women have been arrested and three of their accomplice­s booked for extorting money from a man by making his objectiona­ble video, police said.

On the complaint of one Bharat Bhushan, a resident of Sangat Mandi, Babbi and Aman were arrested. The complainan­t had told police that Babbi and Aman with their three accomplice­s allegedly gave some eatable laced with intoxicant to his brother Rajiv on May 6 and shot his video. “They later started blackmaili­ng Rajiv by demanding ₹1 lakh and also took away ₹12, 000 he was carrying,” Bhushan stated in his complaint.

A case under Sections 384 , 342 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
