INITIATIVE SHIMLA: In a bid to improve the standard of education in schools, the Himachal Pradesh education department has made the annual confidential reports (ACR) of the teachers result oriented.

“The state education department has done a comprehensive review of the functioning of the government schools across the state and decided to make ACRs of teachers result oriented with the current academic session. Now, the teachers will get weightage in accordance with the results of the students,” said ML Azad, additional director, higher education, Himachal Pradesh.

The department has also upgraded the parameters for preparing ACRs of teachers. As per the new parameters, teachers will get 50% points in ACRs only for their performance.

“Teachers whose students would perform poorly and secure less than 20% marks will have to face the action. Earlier teachers performing poorly were let off with a warning but this time their performance will reflect in ACRs,” Azad said.

The government has also decided to make school principals responsible for the overall result of the school.

Poor results in school and declining students enrolment in government schools has been a concern for the government.

Last year’s annual report of the education department had painted a grim picture about the state government schools. The data revealed that in all there are 14,33,260 students in the schools, out of which, 9,31,187 are in government schools and over 5 lakh in private institutions.

Interestingly, in order to attract more students in government schools, the government has decided to do away with the four-decade old combination of grey and white school uniform, it would be soon replaced with new colour combination.
